Aerial Hoop Classes

  • Learn the fundamentals of aerial hoop with other newbies ✨. We highly recommend starting with an Intro to Aerial Hoop Series or Intro to Aerial Arts series to get a good handle on the fundamentals.

This intro course will help set you up to seamlessly transition into the foundational classes.

No upper body strength is required!

Adults and ages 16+ with parent’s permission welcome to join

  • Step into the world of aerial arts with our Beginner Lyra class, designed for those new to the lyra or looking to build strength through foundational skills. In this class, you'll explore the basics of lyra, including proper form, mounting, and introductory poses. We'll focus on developing core strength, flexibility, and body awareness, providing a strong base for your aerial practice. Whether you're just starting out or refining your fundamentals, this class offers a welcoming and supportive environment to grow your skills.

  • This class is for aerialists ready to push their hoop practice further. Each month centers around a different theme—past favorites include “The Pain Train” and “Top Bar Scaries.” Themes rotate between skill-building focuses like dynamic movement (beats, rolls, drops), strength challenges (strap work, inversions), and sequencing to improve endurance and flow.

To participate safely and confidently, students should be able to:

    • Consistently mount a hoop at a taller height

    • Hold a front balance and back balance (hands-free) for an extended period

    • Exit the hoop safely and with control, repeatedly

Expect a mix of challenge, creativity, and conditioning—with some laughs (and sore abs) along the way.

  • Private lessons allow for individualized attention to detail. Private lessons start at 30 minutes for complete beginners and 45-90 minutes for prior students. Please message us to book.

 FAQs

  • As much skin coverage as possible, ideally! At the very least, wearing leggings and a t shirt works well. The metal hoops are taped so they tend to feel not great on bare legs and lower back. If you really want to go all out, wearing a leotard (that isn’t low cut on either side) is a great option with leggings over the top.

Summer note: due to the heat we allow shorts, but recommend bringing a pair of leggings or additional layer if legs start to feel raw.

Socks are also recommended, especially in the winter.

  • No prior experience is necessary for the beginner classes. “Beginner” in aerial hoop is a wide range though so you may be in class with people who have been coming for some time. We will split the class depending on where everyone is at to make sure that you have a positive experience. If you’d like to deep dive into the basics with other newbies we recommend signing up for the six week series if there is one coming up.

  • A full water bottle, we do not have water readily available at the studio.

A positive attitude! Aerial arts can be tricky to get the hang of in the beginning and as adults we tend to feel really critical of ourselves if we don’t get something right away. It is going to take time and that is okay! Aerial hoop in particular is nice in the sense that there are a lot of seated positions and therefore more accessible.

  • We do not offer refunds.

Weekday classes (Monday–Thursday) may be rescheduled if the request is made before 2pm on the day of your class. Rescheduled classes must be used within two weeks of the original date and are subject to availability. Requests made after 2pm cannot be accommodated and the class will be forfeited.

Weekend classes (Friday–Sunday) are non-refundable and non-reschedulable, regardless of notice given. Please ensure you are available before booking.

If we do not meet our minimum of three students, the class may be cancelled and your class credit will be returned to your account for future use.

  • So many people think this! We start you from the beginning and work you up as you gain strength, body awareness, and flexibility. You don’t need to be able to do a pull up or even hang from a bar to be able to join classes. All we ask is that you are willing to try!

While foundational classes will have some hoops to be able to enter from standing on the ground, the ability to lift your leg up to parallel or slightly above is the only requirement we have for class. Without this mobility, everything that we work on will be challenging.

  • Students must be at least 16 with parent’s permission.

  • Make sure to eat and drink lots of water that day and the day before. Try not to eat a heavy meal at least an hour before class. Maintaining good personal hygiene (recent shower, antiperspirant/deodorant), and staying away from strong perfumes as we have students who are allergic. Try to arrive 5 minutes early for your first class to get a feel for the studio, where to put your things, meet the teacher, etc.

  • Progress is not linear- especially in aerial arts. We recommend coming to classes at least once a week for the first couple of months to ease into it, and taking videos so that you can refer back to them if you come to open aerial. Video is the best way that you can see yourself progress! Ideally 2-3 times a week is where we see incredible amounts of progress, whether that is classes or a mix with open training time. Time in the apparatus practicing what you’ve learned will help you gain strength and endurance.
