Tip of the Month: Choosing a Song for Showcase
Mallorie and Sarah performing at the Mythology showcase in May 2025.
Trying to find the perfect song for your showcase performance? Start by thinking about the mood you want to convey and go from there. Do you want your performance to be dramatic? Playful? Sad? Powerful? Maybe there is a particular move or pose that you love and want to showcase. If so, choose a song where you can pause and really show that off! If this is your first performance, we recommend choosing a song that is between 2 and 3 minutes for hoop, and between 3 and 4 minutes for silks (silks moves take a little longer to set up). Even if you are a seasoned performer, we don’t recommend choosing a song much longer than five minute as the audience could get bored! If performing silks for the first time, it can often be helpful to choose a slower song so you don’t feel rushed. The bottom line? Choose a not-too-long song that resonates with you and the mood/character you want to convey to the audience. Make it uniquely yours! Need more help?
