Tip of the Month: Consistency is Key

What makes a captivating aerial performance? Is it jaw dropping skills? Is it effortless (looking) execution? Is it a smooth and graceful flow?

The answer is yes, to all of the above!

Every aerialist wants to obtain those attributes. We take classes. We condition. We look up tips and tricks. We watch videos of other aerialists in an attempt to recreate their magic. All of these are important pursuits to help us to one day achieve our goals.

But one of the most important skill to master is consistency.

Behind every showstopping aerial performance or polished video is an aerialist who consistently returned to their practice again and again. Any skill or sequence that is executed smoothly has been practiced hundreds of times, over and over.

New tricks can be fun and add variety to our repertoire, but drilling the foundational skills is where you will really start to see the needle begin to move.

And we know, sometimes it can feel monotonous.

Hip key.... hip key... hip key...

Pull over... pull over... pull over...

A fun and helpful way to stay consistent is to record yourself.

Recording yourself can be beneficial as you can see where your alignment might be off. You can also use it to track your progress. While progress never happens as fast as we would like, you would be surprised at the small amounts of progress you can actually see over the course of just a few weeks when you are recording yourself.

Keep at it and those skills will get easier and easier. We recommend utilizing open studio times as well as classes. During open studio you can focus on the skills most important to you. Plus, you will have an opportunity to train with students from other classes who might have thoughts and suggestions that worked for them.

Plus, struggling is always more fun.
